Wal-Mart to purchase wind energy

Retailer commits to buying renewable power to save over 200,000 tonnes of CO2

Wal-Mart Stores will be purchasing wind energy to provide 15% of the power to 360 of its facilities in Texas, announced the retailer last week. The Duke Energy wind farm that will supply the electricity is currently under construction in Texas, and will begin producing about 226 million kilowatt-hours of power each year in April 2009, avoiding roughly 239,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
