Dynegy drops plans for coal power plants

Energy provider scraps joint-development for five coal-fired plants in US

US power company Dynegy announced in early January that it had cancelled its joint development plans to build five new coal-fired electricity plants with LS Power, as part of America’s largest proposed new fleet of coal plants. Dynegy had been labelled “the next King Coal” by US environmental groups including Green America, which is now calling the company’s pullout a sign that coal-fired power is “one big step closer to being mothballed.”
