Group proposes emissions plan to UN, suggests cap-and-trade to reach targets

The Aviation Global Deal group last week presented the UN with suggestions to include the airline industry in a post-Kyoto climate change deal, proposing to address global aviation emissions from an international standpoint. The group asked for access to global carbon markets via a cap-and-trade scheme in an effort to meet industry-wide carbon targets, and the appointment of an international body to administer such a system.

The Aviation Global Deal group comprises airlines Air France/KLM, BAA, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways and international NGO, The Climate Group
