UK demands high-quality offsets
DECC will purchase CDM Gold Standard credits to support sustainable development
The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change announced it will be purchasing carbon credits that meet the Clean Development Mechanism’s Gold Standard, or offer equivalent benefits. Joan Ruddock, the DECC’s minister of state, said these High Quality offsets not only provide verifiable carbon emission reductions, but also provide opportunities for sustainable investment in developing countries.
