Warmer climate alters US wind speeds

A new study says that wind power could be harder to come by in the eastern two-thirds of the US because of climate change

Wind speeds are slowing in the eastern and middle United States but increasing in parts of California, making wind power a better alternative for heavily populated southern California and the opposite for the more sparsely populated Midwest. The Iowa State University study said parts of California, including the windmill-laden Coachella Valley two hours away from Los Angeles, have seen a 2 percent increase in wind speeds and that is expected to continue to grow. Wind power businesses in southern California, such as Wintec Energy, are expected to benefit from this news as well as a recent Department of Energy report advocating the increase of wind power across the country.
