UK to fund electric car test beds

The UK government is going to award £25 million to eight electric car test beds

The eight projects were all winners of the Ultra Low Carbon Vehicles Demonstrator Competition and will be unveiled on 23 June at London's Guildhall Yard. The idea behind the Technology Strategy Board project (part of the UK government) is to get 340 demonstrator vehicles onto UK roads in the next six to 18 months. Most of the cars are electric but there are also plug-in hybrid and hydrogen cars. Jaguar Land Rover, BMW Nissan, Ford, Mercedes and Toyota are amongst the major auto manufacturers involved in the programme.
