Environmental Consulting Market feels economic pinch

A new report says that despite growing by 9% in 2008, the £1.46 billion environmental consulting business is feeling the weight of the recession

An Environmental Analyst report, released this week, forecast only minimal industry growth at best for next year, despite five straight years of steady growth. The report spoke of how the market struggled when the US housing market and banks collapsed in October, with industry employees struggling to find work during the final few months of 2008. According to the report, the environmental consulting industry reflects economic cycles, and recessions tend to hit the industry hard. Between 2004 and 2007, the environmental consulting market grew by an average of 13% a year.
