This month's career moves in the global renewables sector

UK

Tim O'Sullivan has joined JP Kenny the global engineering contractor, as operations director of the newly formed Offshore Renewables Division. O’Sullivan will be responsible for the delivery of existing renewable projects which currently include the Cornwall Wave Hub development, off the coast of South West England, supporting various aspects of the offshore wind accelerator programme for the Carbon Trust, ongoing support to Oceanlinx’s wave energy projects, and a number of other global projects.

O'Sullivan previously led MCS in Aberdeen, an advanced subsea technology company owned by Wood Group.


US

Greenpeace USA the leading environmental group released details of a promotion for its top organiser, Phil Radford to executive director this month.

Radford has been with Greenpeace since 2003 and was behind the launch of the NGO's "Frontline" initiative that nearly doubled the organization's annual budget to $30 million.

Before joining Greenpeace, Radford founded a nonprofit group called Power Shift aimed at boosting use of clean energy sources.

Recurrent Energy the San Fransisco based solar energy provider, expanded its executive leadership team this month. Sheldon Kimber, formerly vice president of finance, was selected as vice president of development based on his decade of experience in energy finance, project origination and development. Prior to Recurrent Energy, Kimber spent five years at Calpine, working on gas-fired power projects and power purchase agreements. Previously, he worked as an investment banker for industrial and natural resource companies at Goldman Sachs.

Benjamin Cook joins the company as vice president of finance, filling the vacancy left by Kimber’s transition. Cook brings with him nearly 15 years experience with corporate and project finance, as well as management in the renewables industry. He was most recently the director of structured finance & business development at SunPower Corporation Systems.

In addition, the company formally announced the addition of Karl Knight, as the company’s Managing Director of International Development. Knight is spearheading Recurrent Energy’s growing distributed solar project pipeline in Europe and emerging markets worldwide. Prior to joining the company, he was managing director of finance and development for Regenesis Power, a commercial solar services company.

Shawn Lechien has joined GreenCore Capital, the San Diego based private-equity firm with an emphasis in funding renewable energy companies. Lechien has been appointed as CEO of Business Services, a new division providing advisory services to early stage and mid stage companies. Prior to joining Lechien served in senior management roles at local San Diego Companies, the Titan Corporation as treasurer and as a key executive in mergers and acquisitions at Kratos Defense & Security, Inc.

Adding to the leadership team, GreenCore Capital also announced the appointments of Olaf Walter as COO, Gilbert Barnes as managing director of their office in San Diego, California, and Michael Telford as managing director of their office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Green Plains Renewable Energy the leader in ethanol and biofuels production has appointed Wayne Hoovestol as chief strategy officer this month. As CSO, Hoovestol will be responsible for assisting the chief executive officer with strategy development and execution. Hoovestol has served as a director of the company and has served as chairman of the board of directors since October 2008, a position he still holds.

In New York, Charles Bass has joined its board of directors at Laidlaw BioPower, the biomass power developer. Bass is a former six-term congressman for New Hampshire’s second congressional district. He is currently vice-chairman of the Republican Main Street Partnership and previously served as its President and CEO.


Canada

Sierra Geothermal Power the Vancouver based firm developing geothermal power announced the appointment of Jerry Evans as a director this month. Evans brings more than 25 years of corporate finance and investment management experience to SGP's board including years of experience in raising capital for infrastructure, renewable and alternative energy opportunities. Evans is a currently managing partner at Aurion Infrastructure Inc., a company investing in North American mid-market infrastructure opportunities.

Canadian geothermal project developer and generator Western GeoPower announced the appointment of John Copeland as acting chairman of the board in April. Copeland has been a director of Western GeoPower since 2003, and is chairperson of the audit committee and compensation committee. Copeland has 40 years experience as a life insurance agent and financial advisor and previously owned a general insurance agency.


China

China Solar & Clean Energy Solutions The manufacturer and distributor of solar water heaters and renewable energy solutions have appointed Veronica Jing Chen as chief financial officer, effective immediately.

Chen is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of experience in finance, and general management. Prior to joining CSOL, she had been chief financial officer of China Valve Technology and Origin Agritech, two publicly-listed companies on US Exchanges with principal operations in China.


Philippines

Former investment banker and Energy Secretary Vincent Perez has been appointed to head the National Renewable Energy Board, a new body created under the Renewable Energy Act.

Perez was appointed Energy Secretary from 2001 to 2005, before that he worked in investment banking and debt restructuring. He is currently the founder and chief executive officer of Alternergy Partners, a power company developing renewable energy in emerging countries in Asia. He is also co-founder and chairman of Merritt Partners, an advisory firm assisting energy companies with their energy investments in Asia.
